Immerse yourself in nature and see the wildlife as you explore Sabah with an English speaking tour guide. Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and see the sanctuary located within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. There are Bornean orangutans living free in the reserve and it has become one of Sabah's tourist attractions worth visiting. You may feed, interact, and drop by the Outdoor Nursery to learn more about their rehabilitation process.

Orangutans have shaggy reddish fur and strong long arms. Flanged males have prominent cheek pads called flanges and a throat sac. The unflanged male confusingly looks like female. Ironically both can reproduce and an unflanged male can change to a flanged male (there is no concrete explanation for it). There are about 54,000 orangutans found in Sarawak and Sabah, Malaysia and in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Sadly, its population has decreased throughout the years by more than 50%.

Next stop is at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) where you will see Malaysian sun bears (or honey bears). It is a conservation centre which advocates on improving animal welfare and rehabilitation of the sun bears. They have white or yellowish patches on their chests unlike other bears. They also eat sweet fruits, honey, small rodents, birds, termites, and other insects. Sun bears are found in Southeast Asian tropical forests and swamp habitats--Malaysia, Cambodia, China, etc. They are often hunted for their body parts for medicinal uses (scientists said there is no medical value) and their cubs are sold. You will see bears confiscated by the Sabah Wildlife Department or surrendered to BSBCC.

Afterwards, see the diverse plants and animals found in Malaysia at the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo. This area contains trees such as strangler fig plants, timber trees, and wild fruit trees. You may encounter one of the 17 species of Rafflesia, a plant with the largest flower in the world. There are Sumatran rhinoceros subspecies and the Borneo pygmy elephant. You may also see the mountain treeshrew, the Bornean black-banded squirrel, and Whitehead's pygmy squirrel.

Last stop is at the Rainforest Discovery Centre where you will see a lot of different plant and animal species. Encounter wildlife such as slow lorises, tarsiers, mouse deer, and civet cats. Check out the hybrid orchids, arid land plants, aquatic plants, and pitcher plants.
