Thai massages are one of the world's most popular spa treatments, so it is not surprising that there is no shortage of places to enjoy this pampering procedure in the country's capital city. Many of Bangkok's most luxurious hotels, such as Mandarin Oriental and the Eugenia, boast stunning onsite spas, but visitors should expect to pay quite a bit of money to enjoy these treatments.
Fortunately, there are also a good number of highly ranked standalone spas in Bangkok which charge about half as much as hotel spas for the same treatments. Divana Massage and Spa, Oasis Spa, and So Thai Spa are some of Bangkok's most recommended standalone spas. Researching and comparing promotions at each spa is important because prices can often vary dramatically.
Of course, smaller massage shops can easily be found on virtually every Bangkok street corner, especially at Khao San Road and Sukhumvit. Legitimate massage shops have workers giving foot massages where people can easily see them. Massages at these smaller shops typically last one or two hours and generally cost less than those at larger and more luxurious Bangkok full service spas.
Visitors can even learn Thai massage with courses in English at Rattanakosin's legendary Wat Pho temple. Another Rattanakosin temple, Wat Mahathat, features the International Buddhist Meditation Centre where meditation classes are offered at no cost three times per day.
Bangkok has also become one of the world's leading medical tourism destinations as many of the city's hospitals perform heart bypasses, hip replacements, cosmetic surgery, dental work, and many more medical procedures at far cheaper prices than in many other countries. All-inclusive medical tourism packages combine medical treatment with stays at some of Bangkok's top ranked hotels.
Bumrungrad International Hospital is considered Bangkok's highest ranked hospital, but Samitivej Srinakarin and Bangkok General Hospital are not far behind. Piyavate Hospital's TRIA Integrative Wellness Center and S Medical Spa allow patients to recuperate with therapeutic spa treatments in relaxing environments.
